My purse is lighter these days thanks to my decision to stop using loyalty cards. OK I've not quite weaned myself off my Liberty card, which is not really what I should be using in my starting-a-business lifestyle these days. But, those Tesco Clubcards, Nectar cards and so on are not something I miss in the slightest. I am aware of the way I say "NO" rather angrily when the nice ladies and gentlemen at the checkout ask me if I've got a loyalty card (they ALWAYS ask). It's not fair to take it out on them. It's funny though, they don't quite understand why I shouldn't want one.
However, there is one scheme I'm considering using for myself as a consumer and also for my business. It's called Wedge Card. It's just for small independent shops. So, you get some of those tempting loyalty benefits and feel good about it. It looks to be London mainly but I'm very interested, eventually, to be part of this. Also, it's got a good directory of small shops.
I might actually test a small shop owner out and see if they ask me for my Wedge Card automatically. I get the impression that I won't be subjected so such standardised 'customer service training'.
